Let’s face it, for some people, the activity of metal detecting can be a passing fancy, a fad, one that fades usually, faster compared to gloss in our shiny, new metal detectors. But, to the rare few, it’s an awareness and enthusiasm that stays around pretty much through out our lives.
Most of us who started out treasure hunting and metal detecting at a young age discover this out to be the reality. The pastime just gets in your own bones early more than enough and you simply cannot shake it.
Though metal detecting typically experiences a negative reputation or poor press-often misinterpreted by the public due to its solitary nature-with hobbyists often lumped together and stereotyped as typically harmless and geekily weird, we are truly a different bunch. Apart from falling into four different hunting organizations: the mineral hunter, the beachcomber, the coin shooter, and the relic hunter; we’re people who come from different walks of life. We've got other passions apart from metal detecting and normally, hold other jobs.
Exactly why are we so into the pastime? What’s not to like? For individuals who know very well what they are accomplishing, they could really-and do-earn some additional (literally) coin! And several of these coins that they've managed to find happen to be worth an amount of money. But, that, to the true enthusiast, is gravy. That's just a bonus. The reward with the pastime would be the act itself. The entertainment to be out there hunting to many of us, is reward in itself. The entertainment of having the ability to take out our metal detectors and remain out and discover is more than half the enjoyment.
Naturally, no metal detecting enthusiast will say no to a discover. We all really like discovering and recovering things. Whether they be beneficial or just old-still useful in a sense, but absolutely nothing that could probably be sold for lots of money.
So, when Christmas time rolls all around the corner and the following age group begins trailing us around on these hunts and starts begging us for their very own metal detectors, we know that the cycle has started again.
